外文摘要：The theory of rhetorical narrative centers on the dynamic process of narrative, i. e. , the interaction of the author, the text and the reader, especially the interrelationship between narrative strategy and readers＇ interpretation. This paper aims at a rhetorical reading of the Indian female writer Alundhati Roy＇ s The God of Small Things, in the hope of exploring the rhetoric interaction of the author, the text and the reader during the process of interpretation. The paper maintains that in The God of Small Things, Roy adopts a quite characteristic narrative strategy which arouses in the reader＇ s mind a muhidimensional reading response, and thus gains its rhetorical effect as expected.
