外文摘要：As the third novel of Liang Fenglian’s series of novels on the historical changes of Guangzhou, The Vicissitudes of Yangcheng (Guangzhou) displays the historical evolution of Guangzhou in the past 70 years with the two sisters of the Yu family as the clue. Like many modern novels on Lingnan (inclusive of what is now Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan), The Vicissitudes of Yangcheng (Guangzhou) has also adopted a secular value orientation and its affirmation of the life value has highlighted the spirit of pragmatism and simplicity in Lingnan culture. As a novel with distinct regional cultural traits, The Vicissitudes of Yangcheng (Guangzhou) has employed a large number of cultural symbols such as diet, folklore, language and art to highlight the local cultural characteristics. Although the significance of novel writing is outstanding, there are also problems such as the structural imbalance and the insufficient prominent characters, etc. On the whole, The Vicissitudes of Yangcheng (Guangzhou) is an important text in the description of contemporary Guangzhou.
