【Objective】To investigate the digestive, antioxidant, and immune performance of greater amberjack(Seriola dumerili)with different growth rates under the same aquaculture environment, and explore the reasons behind the differences in growth rates.【Method】The fish that were raised to one year old under identical feeding conditions were categorized into a fast-growth group and a slowgrowth group.Ten fish were randomly selected for each group to measure their total length, body mass, and body height.Additionally, the activities of digestive enzymes in the liver, stomach, and intestine were assessed, along with the activities of antioxidant enzymes and non-specific immune enzymes in serum and liver.Furthermore, the expression of immune-and antioxidant-related genes in the liver were analyzed.【Result】The results of the digestive enzyme assays indicated that the activities of pepsin(PPS),lipase(LPS),and trypsin(TPS)in the liver and of amylase(AMS)and TPS in the intestine and stomach, were significantly elevated compared to those in the fast-growing group(P<0.05).In contrast,PPS activity was significantly lower than that in the slow-growing group(P<0.05).The antioxidant enzyme assay results revealed that the activity of catalase(CAT)and the content of malondialdehyde(MDA)in the liver,as well as the glutathione peroxidase(GPX),CAT,and superoxide dismutase(SOD)in the serum, were significantly higher in the fast-growing group than those in the slow-growing group.Conversely,SOD activity in the liver and MDA content in the serum were significantly lower in the fast-growing group than those in the slow-growing group(P<0.05).Nonspecific enzyme activity assay results showed that aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and alanine aminotransferase(ALT)activities in the liver,as well as alkaline phosphatase(AKP)and acid phosphatase(ACP)activities in the serum, were significantly higher in the fast-growing group than those in the slow-growing group(P<0.05).However,AST and ALT activities in the serum were significantly lower than those in the slow-growing group(P<0.05).The qPCR results indicated that the expression levels of the antioxidant genes gpx1b,cat,sod1,sod3,and gss,as well as the immunerelated genes il10 and tgfβ2,were significantly higher in the fast-growing group(P<0.05).【Conclusion】The fast-growing greater amberjack exhibits enhanced digestive, antioxidant, and immune capabilities, providing a theoretical basis for exploring the reasons behind differences in growth rates among individuals of this species.
