外文摘要:Microplastic (MP) pollution poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems and seafood safety. While abundant in the South China Sea, links between environmental MPs and economically important fish, particularly regarding habitat-specific exposure pathways, remain poorly understood. A systematic assessment of MP abundance and characteristics in surface seawater, sediment, gastrointestinal tracts (GITs), and gills was conducted across 126 commercially important fish from eight South China Sea sites, and the feeding preferences of the fish were analyzed. The average abundance of MPs in fish, surface seawater and sediment were 13.30 +/- 5.75 items/ind., 0.19 +/- 0.12 items/m & sup3; , and 653.33 +/- 451.90 items/kg (dw, dry weight), respectively. Additionally, the abundance of MPs in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) (7.29 +/- 2.59 items/ind.) was comparable to that in fish gills (7.82 +/- 4.66 items/ind.). Fragments of polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polystyrene (PS) dominated all media. The correlation analysis showed that the MP abundance in the pelagic fish gills was positively correlated with the MP abundance in the surface seawater (p < 0.05), while the MP abundance in demersal fish GIT was positively correlated with the MP abundance in the sediment (p < 0.05). Renkonen indices confirmed high similarity in MP characteristics between fish and their respective primary habitat media. The target group index (TGI) analysis revealed fish preferences for specific MP traits. This study provides conclusive evidence that MP ingestion in fish is determined by both environmental availability and selective feeding behavior. These findings are crucial for assessing ecological risks and human exposure from seafood in this vital region.
