外文摘要:The rapid expansion of plastic production has introduced challenges in managing a diverse array of plastic polymers, additives, and sizes. The degradation of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) releases harmful compounds and additives that disseminate and accumulate contaminants as plastispheres form in diverse ecosystems. Animals and humans continually absorb additives derived from MPs/NPs through several routes, including the digestive system, respiratory tract, and skin contact. In particular, smaller NPs can easily cross the intestinal barrier and enter the circulatory system, accumulating in tissues such as the brain, lung, liver, and kidney. This chapter discusses how exposure to plastic additives containing phthalates, adipates, trimellitate, and halogenated flame retardants affects reproductive health, disruptions in signaling pathways, hormone receptors and synthesis, neurodevelopment, hepatotoxicity, respiratory irritation, obesity, and cancer in humans and animals. This information highlights the urgent need for research toward green and sustainable solutions that protect both organisms and ecosystems. ? 2026 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
